Nissan teamed up with a famous street artist to transform the new Micra into a striking example of modern art.
The made-over Micra is being exhibited at Joburg’s City of Gold Urban Art Festival, which ends next Saturday.
The street art festival is organised by artist Rasty Knayles, the renowned graffiti and tattoo artist and founder of the Grayscale Gallery – Joburg’s only gallery dedicated to street art.
The City of Gold Festival has taken over Braamfontein for seven days. International street artists were invited to join local artists to make the streets come alive with millions of colours.
Nissan invited Isaac Malakkai, a European illustrator and street artist, to visit the festival and paint the Micra.
Until the festival ends, large walls around the inner city are being painted to give some worn streets an edgy new look. There are also film screenings and exhibitions. You can also take walking tours daily to see street art and graffiti.
The festival seeks to highlight the positive aspects of this art and to involve the general public in creating a heightened awareness, and appreciation for it.
The City of Gold Exhibition showcases the artists participating in the festival. It is open to the public until the end of October.
