THIS week SunWheels went to Vosloorus to meet Daniel Mbatha, who has stayed loyal to one brand – Volkswagen.

Daniel currently works at a bakery in a large anchor tenant at Campus Square Shopping Centre in Joburg.

Q: What car do you drive?

A: It’s a second-hand 2006 VW Golf 1.

Q: When did you buy it?

A: In 2017.

Q: Why do you like it?

A: It is easy to maintain in most cases. I can fix it if there is a problem – unless it is something mechanical and complicated. It also has a good petrol consumption and is comfortable to drive.

Q: Is it your first car?

A: It’s my fourth but they are all VWs.

Q: Do you have a driver’s licence?

A: Yes, I got it in 2007.

Q: Why did you choose that colour?

A: I fell in love with it in black. Every time I wash it, it looks new.

Q: How far have you travelled?

A: I have driven to Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KZN.

Q: Did you change anything?

A: Not me, but the previous owner changed the music player and a few other things.

Q: Is it your dream car?

A: No, my dream car is the Golf 7 GTI.

Q: Would you lend it to someone else?

A: Yes, but only if that person has a driver’s licence and is a reliable and responsible driver.

Q: Does it have a name?

A: I did not name it but my kids call it Black Mamba because of its colour. I like the name.
