HONDA has launched a fresh version of its Civic sedan in Mzansi, featuring a series of improvements and upgrades.

The carmaker has added a series of subtle enhancements to the exterior and interior of all four models in the line-up, while the choice of drivetrains remains unchanged, between two proven four-cylinder engines, a normally-aspirated 1,8-litre unit, and a sporty 1,5-litre turbo petrol.

As in the past, there are still four models, the 1,8 Comfort and 1,8 Elegance, and the 1,5T Sport and 1,5T Executive.

The new Honda Civic has arrived in Mzansi.

Performance outputs for the 1,8-litre power plant are 104kW and 174Nm, while the second turbo-charged unit delevers 127kW and 220Nm torque. A smooth and efficient Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is standard across the range.

For the updated model, the front end receives a redesigned front grille, a bolder, three-dimensional bumper and new styling details, all designed to further emphasise the Civic’s unique fusion of sportiness and refinement.

At the rear, there is new chrome detailing designed to highlight the wide, low stance of the Honda, while chrome garnish has been added to the front of the 1,8 Comfort, as well as around the fog lamps of the 1,8 Elegance and 1,5T Executive models.

Furthermore, new model-specific wheel designs have been introduced to add some extra eye candy. The 1,8 Comfort boasts double-spoke 16-inch items in “Shark Grey”, while the 1,8 Elegance and 1,5T Executive are fitted with 17-inch wheels finished in “Dark Grey”. The flagship 1,5T Sport, meanwhile, gains 17-inch alloys finished in “Berlina Black”.

Other improvements include better noise insulation while Honda says it has refined the interior fit and finish too.

A seven-inch display functions as the centrepiece of the infotainment system and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (on Elegance, Sport and Executive models). Some touchscreen buttons have been replaced by physical controls, while a volume knob is also present.

The Civic comes with a five-year/200 000 km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan ship standard.

  • Pricing: Honda Civic 1,8 Comfort CVT: R364 500) Honda Civic 1,8 Elegance CVT: R408 500) Honda Civic 1,5T Sport CVT: R474 700) Honda Civic 1,5T Executive CVT: R507 600
