HIGH ON THE POLO HIGHLINE

The moment you set your eyes on the new Polo, you’ll want it.
The moment you set your eyes on the new Polo, you’ll want it.

Volkswagen Polo fans say it still remains ahead of its game.

So SunWheelstested the new Polo Highline to test this claim.

The latest Polo was launched here at the beginning of the year and is the class leader in its market. It has the same ingredients of previous Polos that makes it a winning recipe – premium build quality, decent space and great performance.

The latest Polo design isn’t a radical change but it does look fresh, more mature and upmarket with its obvious increase in size. The luggage space has been increased from 280 litres to 350 litres.

The Polo really impresses on the inside. The new Polo’s interior fit and finish basically matches quality found on Audis. This makes it tough for any competitor to match the Polo on this front.

The Highline specification is impressive with LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth and USB connections, front, side and curtain airbags, sport seats and cruise control. It also comes with VW’s high-tech composition media system complete with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto which feature voice control.

The increased interior space is a good improvement for rear passengers, which means that the Polo can easily seat four adults.

Our test Polo had the 1,0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which was fitted with VW’s seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Though the Polo impresses on nearly every front, it is its drive that excited us the most. Its on-road manners are extremely refined and the ride is quiet and composed. Gear changes are quick and smooth, while road and engine noises are quiet.

VW again hits the spot with the new Polo and its only real drawcard is that it is pricier than most rivals.
