Andries “Green” Namane from Duduza, in Ekurhuleni, said his car is the apple of his eye.
“Those who have seen my car before and others who are seeing it for the first time still give it the same stare.”
Q: What car is this?
A: She’s a BMW 645CI.
Q: When did you buy your car?
A: I bought her in 2015.
Q: Is she your first car?
A: No, my 10th but the most special of all the cars I own.
Q: Does she have a pet name?
A: Yes, I call her Gautrain because she’s fast and catches everyone’s eye.
I love how my car makes a statement when I park her ekasi. People come to take pictures of her.
Q: Why do you love your car so much?
A: She is beautiful. classy, fast, convenient, has space, the original leather seats are strong and her performance is out of this world.
Q: What are her best features?
A: Everything, bhuti. You can drive her as a manual or automatic. She also has a screen where I can watch movies when I’m not driving.
Q: What colour is your car?
A: It’s red. It used to be gold but that wasn’t impressive so I had her resprayed.
Q: Is Gautrain your dream car?
A: Yes, but I love my other cars, too.
Q: Who can drive your car?
My older brother Graig and wife Busisiwe when she gets her driver’s licence.
Q: Do you get any speeding tickets with Gautrain?
A: No, I am careful on the road.
Q: What music plays in your car?
A: I listen to all kinds of music. If I don’t play music, I tune in to the radio.
Q: Have you taken her on a long distance trip?
A: Yes, I have been to Durban and the Free State in my car. She moves on the road and has never disappointed me – not even once.
Q: What about Mzansi’s other road users?
A: Not many drive well especially taxi drivers – they just stop without indicating. They don’t follow the rules of Mzansi roads. The sooner they change the way they drive, the sooner we will all be better drivers on the roads.
