THE Ford Everest Sport is based on the well-known Everest XLT and aims to compete in the highly competitive sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment.

After owning it for one week, we now know why it is doing so well, with many Mzansi families choosing it as their family car.

The Everest Sport delivers quality, refinement and luxury, combined with exceptional space and practicality, boasting a more dynamic and athletic look.

Available also in 4x2, we drove a 4x4 guise with an electronic locking rear differential as standard. Looking at external design, the Everest Sport is distinguished by its black mesh grille and unique Everest badge on the bonnet, along with black mirror caps and door handles – replacing the chrome finishes on the Everest XLT.

The dynamic appearance is also enhanced by the black treatment for the bumper chin and rear balance in place of the silver accompanied by ebony roof rails, special Sport decals on the rear doors and beautiful 20-inch black alloy wheels.

We loved the frozen white we drove but there is a host of colours to choose from including diffused silver, agate black, moondust silver, sea grey and copper red.

It performs wonders on open roads and excels off-road.

LED headlamps and daytime running lights, cruise control and front and rear park sensors with a rear-view camera all come standard in the Everest and all work wonders in making your drive enjoyable.

One of the key features carried over to the Sport derivative is Ford’s pioneering SYNC3 infotainment system, which offers exceptional connectivity and multimedia options, along with intuitive voice control.
