THE Creta is one of the most popular SUVs and a whopping 8 000 units have been sold since arriving early last year.

Almost 18 months later, Hyundai is pumping up the Creta’s game by giving it a fresh upgrade but was careful only to tweak its winning appearance.

These slight design changes add flair but they are mostly at the front, with a new bumper design and bigger grille with more chrome highlights.

There are also new headlights. The LED daytime running lights now surround the foglights. A new bumper is the change at the rear.

The Creta’s roof rails are neatly built in with a shark fin design. The Creta also features alloy wheels and five colour choices.

It only comes in the Executive trim but it has many features, which is one of its biggest selling points. The number of standard features available in the Executive trim includes leather seats, rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, cruise control, folding side mirrors and a comprehensive multimedia system.

Basically, the only option is whether you want satellite navigation or not.

For occupants’ safety, features include six airbags, ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution and Isofix child-seat anchors.

As before, buyers can again choose between a 1,6-litre petrol or turbodiesel engine. The engines can be fitted with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

In a combination of tests involving stop-start city commuting and open road cruising, Hyundai claims the Creta’s average fuel consumption for the petrol engine fitted with the manual gearbox is 7,9 litres every 100km, while an engine fitted with an automatic gearbox uses 8,4 litres every 100km.

The turbodiesel powerplant is only available fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The automatic turbodiesel consumes an average of 7,4 litres of fuel every 100km in a mix of real-world driving styles and conditions.

Adding to the Creta’s value-for-money attitude is that it comes standard with a five-year/100 000km service plan and Hyundai’s credible seven-year/200 000km warranty.
