THERE are a few best practices to take into consideration when washing your car so you don’t damage the exterior.
- Don’t wait until the car is visibly dirty.
If left too long, dead bugs, bird droppings, acid rain and pollutants can dull the car’s finish – even strip the paint.
- Don’t wash a hot car. High temperatures can make cleaning more difficult and cause deposits that eventually damage the paint.
- Buy proper cleaning supplies. A cleaning product created specifically for cars and a large sponge are must-have items for car washing.
Do not use any soap or cleaners unless they are specifically for vehicle care.
- Wash the car in sections.Work on one area at a time: washing, rinsing and drying.
- Don’t move the sponge or cloth in circles – circular motions can create swirl marks. Instead, move the sponge in straight lines.
