BMW has taken the wraps off the new BMW 1-Series. At launch, BMW showcased the base 1-Series in 118i form and the sportiest version the M135i xDrive.

The new 1-Series has divided many BMW fans not only in its design but in the fact the smallest model from Munich will now be front-wheel drive.

The car will be sharing its platform with its Mini cousins.

BMW South Africa has announced that the new 1-Series will hit our shore in the third quarter of 2019. Only the 118i and the M135i will be offered.

The M135i xDrive has its eyes set on rivals like the Audi S3 and Mercedes-AMG A35. Packed with the most powerful four-cylinder petrol engine in BMW line-up. The M135i xDrive power figures are on par with those of the upcoming A35. They both push out 225kW, but the bests the Mercs torque figures with 450Nm compared to 400.

It will do 0-100 in 4.8 seconds and tops out at a regulated 250km/h.
