MZANSI, take note – there is a new Beemer in town!
BMW has just launched its sexiest compact SUV yet in South Africa with the new X2. It is the luxury carmaker’s sixth SUV version and it is destined to become a big hit.
Slotting between the X1 and X3, the X2 has a sportier design, which is similar to that of the X4 and X6 models.
The X2 is quite eye-catching too – it is a sporty four-door coupé-like SUV, with the backwards sloping fastback roof of a classic muscle car.
It’s a bit shorter than the X1, upon which it is based. According to BMW, the X2 is also seven centimetres lower.
Buyers can choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive versions, petrol or diesel engines too – all turbo-charged, of course. The X2 is only available in two different trim packs – M Sport and M Sport X.
The entry-level sDrive18i models have a 1,5-litre three-cylinder engine, which is fitted with either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The X2 moves from zero to 100 km/h in 9,6 seconds.
Next up is the 2,0-litre petrol engine and the 2,0-litre turbodiesel.
The turbodiesel is fitted with an eight-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels and can push in from zero to 100km/h in 7,8 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 219km/h.
Of course, the X2 is a showcase of decadence, luxury and the latest high-tech gadgets, while it has been fitted with all the modern safety features available.
Expect it to become the next must-have SUV in South Africa!
