WATCH OUT! The compact Audi Q2 SUV is here.

The new SQ2 boosts Audi’s sporty SUV range – including the RS Q3 and SQ5 – which will give a Golf GTI a run for its money.

The high performance Q2 provides power that’s channelled through its S sports suspension to the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The SUV moves from zero to 100km/h in a super-quick 4,8 seconds.

The SQ2 also offers a huge range of infotainment and assistance features.

Audi claimed that the new SQ2’s potent 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine is sensitive and responds immediately to driver demands.

The Audi engineers appreciation to the detail of losing weight means the engine weighs just 150kg and is part of the general move by vehicle manufacturers to trim as much unneeded heaviness from their vehicles as is safely allowed.

Other high-tech features boost the value of the SQ2.

Audi improved the exterior design for the S model – especially at the front end alone.

SQ2’s sporty nature is demonstrated by the single, octagonal frame that holds the grille with eight upright bars as well as the standard LED headlights.

Striking details also set highlights on the sides and the rear. Audi Sport also offers a choice of 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels for the SUV. Furthermore, the large brake discs come in red or black with S branding.

Standard equipment for the interior includes sport seats, a front-centre armrest, automatic air conditioning, a sport steering wheel with built-in multifunction controls – paddles for the S tronic gearing are optional extras. The colour display allows drivers to accesses additional information.

The Audi virtual cockpit, which is part of the optional technology pack, replaces the standard driver information system.

Audi is expected to launch the SQ2 in Mzansi early next year.
