THE Ford Figo is a popular compact and sturdy hatch that offers practicality and affordability.
Recently, the second-generation Figo was given a more modern appearance and new engines. SunWheels tested the 1,5-litre automatic Trend.
While the new Figo is a rival to the new VW Polo Vivo, the Polo Vivo is pricier than the Figo but other compacts, such as the new Suzuki Swift, offer better value for money.
One of our test car’s strongest attributes was its three-cylinder 1,5-litre engine. It’s a very likeable power plant which provides the power the car needs.
The Figo’s new six-speed automatic gearbox shifts smoothly in most conditions.
Fuel usage is good too and Ford claims the Figo uses an average 6,5 litres of fuel every 100km.
The inside appearance is a bit bland but everything feels well put together. It comes with features such as a multifunction steering wheel, power steering, electric windows and air conditioning.
It also has a sound system with a Bluetooth connection.
The Figo has an advantage when it comes to interior space too as it is a relatively roomy five-seater.
Another plus is, if you choose to buy the Figo instead of something like the Polo Vivo, that it comes with a four-year/60 000km service plan too. This means that you won’t have to pay for at least four services.
The Figo might look like the Polo Vivo’s less popular cousin but it is a great offering from Ford.
The automatic Figo makes a lot of sense if you are looking for a comfortable and competent city car for the daily commute, since it boasts a fine ride and comfortable handling for an affordable price.
