DO YOU need to buy a new car in 2020 but want the latest trending wheels?
Then before you head off to a dealership to order a new car, it might be worth your while to take note of these new hatchbacks heading to Mzansi this year!
Opel Corsa
The stylish new Opel Corsa is set to arrive by the third quarter and promises to be better than ever before.
It appears to have what it takes to give the top-selling VW Polo a serious run for its money. With eye-catching looks and a more upmarket interior with the latest tech, it takes a quantum leap forward.
On the engine front, there are 96kW and 74kW 1,2L, three-cylinder turbo petrol options as well as a naturally-aspirated 1,2L unit with 55kW on tape. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.
Volkswagen Golf
The king of hatchbacks is to be succeeded by the 8th generation model later this year.
When the latest Golf arrives in the fourth quarter, it will arguably be the most advanced car in its segment.
Though its design is more evolutionary, there is a major tech upgrade under the skin. On the inside things are especially futuristic.
VW is ditching most buttons in favour of touchscreens. The first derivative to arrive will be the iconic GTI, which is still under wraps, with other engines options to follow later. Rumour also has it that all Golfs will only be available with VW’s DSG auto transmission.
Peugeot 208
Peugeot is also upping its hatchback game with the all-new 208.
Due for local introduction in the middle of the year, like other new generations Peugeots, it is quite striking.
The French carmakers are pinning lots of hope on the 208 hoping that its futuristic design will lure new buyers.
The 208’s cabin is as appealing as its exterior design and will be packed with features. In terms of engines, there are turbopetrol and diesel options with a choice of power outputs.
