THERE’S no way that families and friends will have a dull festive season!

Monopoly Mzansi Edition is South Africa’s very own monopoly board game. It showcases 22 proudly South African locations and it will be available in toy stores next month.

The local version of the popular board game was revealed by Hasbro, one of the world’s largest toy, game and entertainment experience companies, at Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton.

Siphiwe Thabethe, country marketing manager for Hasbro South Africa, said Monopoly, which has celebrated its 81st brand birthday, has been enjoyed by over a billion people worldwide.

“Now South Africans will have the opportunity to “own’’ their piece of Mzansi. “We are extremely excited to present the locations that truly represent South Africa’s rich cultural diversity and natural beauty,” he said. Locations include old favourites such as Kruger Park, Gold Reef City and the Union Buildings, with new spots such as Nelson Mandela Square, Maboneng, 4th Avenue Parkhurst, The Oyster Box Hotel, Vilakazi Street and Robben Island.

He said earlier this year, Mzansi people were asked to vote for their favourite Mzansi location, street attraction or destination they wanted to be part of Monopoly history.

The special Mzansi Edition features 22 local landmarks and four transport stations like Sandton Gautrain station. Mzansi’s natural heritage is featured with the Big Hole and Addo Elephant Park while additional beautiful landmarks highlighted on the Mzansi Edition board include The Cradle of Humankind, St Francis Bay, Durban Beach front, Florida Road and uShaka Marine World, fighting for the most affordable locations on the board.
