THOBELA FAILED TO SUBMIT ON TIME

accreditation

THE FACTS

THOBELA Mashalaba from Mthatha, Eastern Cape, had worked at a bank for about 12 years when she was retrenched.

She didn’t submit her UIF claim on time and, as a result, the claim had prescribed.

When she got another job, she was told she’d be able to receive all her UIF, including that from the bank.

She got a job last year, but when she claimed she didn’t receive all her cash.

WHAT I DID

I spoke to the Department of Labour.

SOLUTION

Thabang Mahlangu from the UIF said the claim was submitted and later approved on 20 October last year for 30 credit days of payments.

According to their records, Thobela worked for about 12 years in the banking sector and was dismissed from FNB on 19 September 2009.

She was unemployed from then until February last year. Her attempts to claim UIF benefits were refused as she didn’t apply for benefits within six months as dictated by the law.

If she was not given a Notice of Appeal, then the Labour Centre Office never offered her the options available to her and UIF head office apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The benefits paid on 28 November last year of R970,56 were from Botani Construction, where Thobela worked from 2 February last year to 31 March this year.

Benefits lost in 2009 were as a result of late application and failure of the labour centre to give adequate info.
