THE FACTS
NONDUMISO Qotyana from Protea Glen, Soweto, said she bought a stove at Protea Glen Mall in October.
The oven was bought from OK Furnishers and the stove was purchased from Bradlows.
When the stove stopped working in March, she reported the problem to Bradlows and a technician from Defy was sent to repair it.
In July, the stove broke again and another technician came to repair it. But the man said the stove was beyond repair.
Nondumiso’s daughter went to the mall two weeks later and they said they were still waiting for a report from Defy.
When she went back a few days later, she was told the stove was damaged by cockroaches and her guarantee was no longer valid.
WHAT I DID
I asked the JD Group to look into the complaint.
SOLUTION
Customer relations manager Ankia van der Pluym said the second technician discovered the stove was infested with cockroaches.
She said a warranty was no longer valid if a household appliance was damaged by insects nesting in the circuit boards.
