THE FACTS

SIMON Beya from Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, said he worked for different companies from 1996 until 2015.

When he claimed for his UIF, he was only paid R1 800.

He was not happy with this as he believes he was supposed to have been paid more.

WHAT I DID

I spoke to the Department of Labour to ask why he was not paid money from the previous companies he had worked for.

SOLUTION

Thabang Mahlangu said at the time when Simon applied for his benefits, his previous employment credits had already been exhausted.

The department advises applicants to submit their claims within a specified period. The prescribed time to submit a claim is 12 months from the date one became unemployed.
