THE FACTS

VELAPHI Mthi from Pimville, Soweto said he resigned from the South African Police Service in 2010.

Last year he was appointed as a lecturer at a government college but was not paid at the end of the month.

When he asked what the problem was, he was told his personnel number indicated he had been dismissed.

Velaphi came to the SunDefender for assistance.

WHAT I DID

I wrote to the police force to request that Velaphi’s history be corrected to indicate he had resigned.

SOLUTION

Police spokesman Colonel Athlenda Mathe said Velaphi was dismissed after a disciplinary hearing held on 23 November 2009. He said Velaphi’s exit codes could not be changed.

Mathe said if the new department still wished to employ Velaphi, they must submit a request to the Treasury to find out if provision could be made on the personnel and salary system.
