THE FACTS

MAYBLE Phaladi from Germiston, Ekurhuleni, complained to the SunDefender that he received a bank notification saying he was about to make a purchase from a company that he didn’t know.

He said he contacted his bank to alert them of the fraud and for the transaction to be stopped.

He said his bank did an investigation and told him there was no proof of any fraud or negligence by the bank.

ADVICE

Mayble can lodge a complaint with the Banking Ombudsman. But the ombudsman will want proof that the transaction was not carried out by Mayble and that he has been unfairly treated by the bank.

Should the ombudsman agree with him, the bank will have to refund him the amount.

The Ombudsman for Banking Services can be reached on 011 712 1800 or email at [email protected].
