THE FACTS
Sifiso Mabaso from Pimville, Soweto was convinced by an agent of The Gym Company to sign a gym contract.
Four days later he went to the Maponya Mall branch to cancel it. He was told he had to pay R1 000 to cancel it. The application was then processed and not cancelled. Sifiso, an elderly man, came to the SunDefender for help.
WHAT I DID
I spoke to the head office of The Gym Company in order to have the contract cancelled.
SOLUTION
After no response, a complaint was sent to the National Consumer Commission. By law Sifiso had five days to cancel the contract. The company should have told him to put his request in writing.
