THE FACTS
FLORAH Makhubela from the Joburg CBD said her late brother Phanuel Makhubela was a cop.
When he died Florah’s mother submitted a claim for his pension fund, but she later died. But while the claim was being processed, a woman came forward and said she was legally married to Phanuel.
Attorneys were brought in and the matter went to court, but it was discovered the marriage certificate was fraudulent.
The pension money was deposited into Florah’s bank account, but she never received the interest.
When she contacted the Government Pensions Administration Agency, she was promised the balance would be paid but to date nothing has been paid.
WHAT I DID
I spoke to the agency to find out why the interest hasn’t been paid.
SOLUTION
Katlego Tselapedi from the agency said the pension benefit was paid into a fraudulent account.
After investigating, the fund has paid the benefits to Phanuel’s late estate, which was administered by Florah, the executor.
The interest was later paid into the same account.
