THE FACTS
MAGGIE Ndou from Zakariya Park in Soweto said she applied for her late son’s pension fund from Old Mutual but received no feedback.
She asked the SunDefender for help.
WHAT I DID
I contacted Old Mutual for feedback.
SOLUTION
Spokeswoman Ursula van der Westhuizen said Maggie had been contacted and advised that her son’s pension fund could not be paid out. She said the ID number provided by Maggie did not match the one SARS had.
She said Old Mutual needed a directive from SARS to pay her.
Maggie therefore has to apply for a letter of authority for her son’s estate.
With the letter of authority, from the master of the high court, and her son’s ID book, Maggie can then visit SARS to correct or confirm her son’s ID number.
SARS will give her a letter of confirmation which she can send, along with stamped bank statements and ID copies of her son’s beneficiaries, to Old Mutual for the pension money to be paid out.
