THERE is one way to unite relatives from different villages and that is with a family club.
Faranani Matevha na Vhaduhulu Social Club is such a club and it exists to unite relatives from Ntlhaveni block C, Malamulele, Maxawu, Vhuwani, Tshimbupfe and Basani villages in Limpopo.
Each month the relatives meet at a member’s place to contribute R80. Of this money, R50 is saved for burials and R30 pays for food and drinks.
The Faranani has 22 members and was started in 2015 in Ntlhaveni block C, Limpopo.
Member Girly Nobela said: “Our club is different from any of the groups in other villages. This club is about family who are there for one another whether its in happiness or mourning.
“We spend quality time together at our monthly meetings.
“We also meet in different holidays and the festive season as well as celebrate family events such as weddings and birthday parties.
“When we meet, we eat and drink and exchange gifts with each other.
“But during funerals we also support one another.”
If there is a wedding or birthday party, the club pays R100 to the celebrant.
The club pays out R5 000 to the family of a dead loved one.
Annah Ngoveni, another club member, said: “Faranani plays a pivotal role among our members.
“We are united as never before. We travel together when attending public functions and when we do, we dress in our traditional attire.
“We wear our cultural clothes to encourage other families to come together as a social club because there is power in unity.”
