THE members of Stedio 7 used to meet and spend money wherever booze was sold.
But 10 years ago, they talked about the amount of money they were wasting and how it would be better if it was saved for their own entertainment.
SunStokvel met the group that started in Mangaung phase 2 when they celebrated their 10 year anniversary in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Secretary Hlaudi Morena (47) from Mangaung phase 6 kasi said the group has grown to 25 members.
“We regularly met at booze spots to be entertained but in 2008 we had a suggestion that we should save some of the money we spent on drinks.
“The idea was appealing to us because we all knew that saving money was necessary but difficult for individuals. We talked about it and agreed to be part of a new stokvel called Stedio 7.
“The name does not have any special meaning other than to identify our group.
“We meet twice a month – in the middle and at the end. It is important because some members are paid on the 15th while the rest are paid later.”
Morena said the 10-year celebration is a measure of the success and passion that kept them together for a decade. He added that he is looking forward to celebrating another 10 years together.
“We have plans for the future. We want to see membership of Stedio 7 grow but members need to have the same passion, love and respect for one another as we do.
“When it’s time to contribute we each pay R200 or more. The money is saved and shared at the end of the year.
“We keep informed through a WhatsApp group and take our constitution seriously – we draft a new one every year,” he said.
