IT HAS been 19 years since some of these friends met and formed an outstanding stokvel.
The club was formed back in 1999 with only 11 members who, back then, used to contribute R25 each time they met.
Their aim was to help each other save lots of cash for their family needs.
Years later, the contribution has gone up to R100 a member and their membership stands at 27 men.
The Agisanang Social Club in Temba near Hammanskraalin Tshwane, is one of few social club north of City of Tshwane which has since decided to buy shares in Metropolitan Life Insurance.
The 27-member club was formed by 11 members with an aim of help one another save lots of cash for their family needs.
Club member Jerry Motshabi, who is the public relations officer, said: “I’m happy to be associated with a club like this. We’re like a happy family that knows how to solve its own challenges by making sure we increase our savings using other ways.
“Most clubs are there to help one another but The difference between this stokvel and others is that we do not only rely on the bank to help us achieve our goals, but we’ve also invested some of our money. into an investment scheme.
“We bought shares from two investment schemes – one is Metropolitan Liberty Life and one is MTN,” he said.Today years later the contribution has gone up to R100,00 a member and their membership stands at 27 men

The club meets once every month at a different member’s house.
And each time they meet the host is expected to provide food for the day and the budget is R800 from money they contribute.
Jerry added: “We also have a contract with one funeral parlour in the area. , which is why our contributions in divided into savings and the ones that goes to the funeral pearly.
An amount of R1000 has been invested with Metropolitan company which will take five years before we see any returns on investment and we also bought some share at MTN .
Beside money, we have furniture which we often use whenever we have an event or meetings,” he said.
“Should a club member die the funeral parlour has to provide full services, which includes a coffin and transport for that particular family.”
And in-case is a spouse a standard coffin is provided , however an affected family can add some money to buy any coffin of their choice in-case they are not happy with the standard coffin.
