THESE guys have been a savings club for five years now.
“When you do something with love you’ll achieve the desired results,” said the chairman of Majimbos All Happiness Social Club, Sello Mashilo.
The club was founded in 2003 and has 15 members aged between 20 and 30 years.
They all run small businesses like hair salons, internet cafés and fruit and vegetable stalls.
Based in Mabopane, north of Tshwane, they hold meetings every Sunday at a local shopping complex.
During meetings each member coughs up R50 or more, but treasurer Tyson Sechele says most members pay more.
“Members usually contribute R200.
“They’re dedicated and want to make the club succeed.”
According to Tyson, as treasurer, his duty is to make sure the money is deposited into the club’s account after each meeting.
He told the People’s Paper that members collectively give advice and help those whose businesses are still struggling.
Skhalo Shabangu is another happy club member.
He said through Majimbos’ help he was able to enrol for a short course to become a hair dresser.
“As someone who runs a hair salon, the club enabled me to study, which added to the growth of my business,” he said.
Skhalo also echoed the same sentiment about the club.
“We have fun every time we meet while making sure that we save for rainy days.”
