ARE you a small business owner operating in and around Gauteng?
If so, don’t waste the chance to take a free course at Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre, just opposite the shopping centre, from 7 to 10 December.
The training starts at 8am and ends at 3pm each day. Those who complete the whole course will get certificates.
Gabriel Mokwana, founder of the Life Legacy Project, said they transformed more than 200 businesses in and around Gauteng and Limpopo over the past two years.
Mokwena said the most common problems facing small businesses are proper market identification, research and pricing, as well as effective management.
The legacy project provides entrepreneurs with ideas that help them overcome these problems and turn their visions into reality.
It is important that people understand the competitive advantages of a business before they start one. Mokwena said education was only a part of a business’ success.
The other factors include a good work ethic and an understanding of financial literacy.
Mokwena said: “Our focus is to advise them on what’s needed to run a successful business.
“The course not only teaches the attendees about skills they need, they have a chance of meeting and networking with people – including those who may offer valuable partnerships for mutual benefit.
Gabriel said they will have another workshop early next year in Alexandra and Mogale City.
They have started a funding scheme called Siyasiza. It offers funding to selected small businesses.
Gabriel, who originally comes from Limpopo but now lives in Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal, said the main focus was not only to train small business owners but also to help with access to markets.
“I realised that most small business owners in the townships have the product, but they don’t know how to sell.
“They are financially illiterate, which is something I want to turn around.
“I once opened a business in the past, but it did not last long. My financial literacy was poor and I couldn’t market it properly.
“This, unfortunately, led to my business collapsing.”
