MABERETA Social Club makes money through its members’ businesses.
Members agree it’s a good feeling to be part of this innovative club that changed their lives for the better.
Mabereta, from Mamelodi in Tshwane, was founded in 2016 to create a network in their businesses.
They meet every week, enjoy good food and drinks, talk some business and make their contributions.
Billy Maseko (57), a member, said: “I bought a bakkie and furniture with the money I got from the club.”
He said during meetings members played old-school music that takes them down memory lane.
“When we chill, we’re motivated to look forward to the next meeting.”
Billy said as peers they understand one another.
Martha Moyo (55), another member, said the club helped her pay for her child’s studies at the University of South Africa.
Members own taverns or spaza shops, and together they empower the local business community.
Member, Johannes Hlatshwayo (59), said: “We advise each other on how to run our businesses.”
During meetings, each member contributes R250.
They also buy food and drinks from the host in addition to bringing along a six-pack of beers, ciders, cool drinks or juice.
New members are required to pay a once-off joining fee of R150 each.
