FOUR siblings – Mfana, Anthony, Zanele and Thandi – are the backbones of the Jere family.
They needed a good way to bring their scattered family together so they founded the Jere Family Club in July.
Jere Club was started in Zwelitsha in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
“We are now a happy family,” said Mfana, spokesman of Jere.
“This stokvel was started to bring us together. We realised we were scattered and needed to be united as family.”
He said they decided to start the club while planning their grandparents’ tombstone unveiling.
But they had to work very hard at convincing their relatives to join the family club.
It was only after the club started that everyone started seeing the benefits of membership.
Mfana said they meet every February and November at a member’s place but they have not finalised the monthly contribution yet.
At the moment, they are just meeting and getting to know each other. In future, they will consider contributing money for burials as well as unveilings, weddings and parties.
But when they meet, there is always food to be enjoyed.
“As you know, starting a society is never easy but with hard work we will succeed.”
