Lindokuhle Duma is a young entrepreneur who has been given the wings to fly his businesses.
“I am very grateful to RedBull Amaphiko because it not only trained me to be a better businessman but also gave me the exposure I needed.”
With shisa nyamas opening all over Mzansi, Lindo said: “Red Bull gave me what I needed to make my shisa nyama, Iziko Stoves, serve its customers better.”
Red Bull Amaphiko is a mentoring platform which was started in 2014. It aims to give “wings” to Mzansi’s grassroots entrepreneurs.
Amaphiko hosted its annual Social Innovation Festival at Umlazi in Durban.
The festival brought entrepreneurs from all over the country, who wanted to be part of the academy, to the showgrounds.
The academy trains entrepreneurs every step of the way and walks with them to reach great heights of success.
Murendeni Mafumo, another businessman at the Amaphiko Academy, is the owner of Kusini Water.
Murendeni told SunMoney that his business, Kusini Water, purifies and bottles its own water.
“It is a bit of a long process, and we still operate out of containers, but with the education and support we received from Red Bull, I believe that Kusini is going to grow.”
Murendeni was crowned the winner of the Agri-Water Innovation Challenge which took place in Cape Town a few weeks ago.
Murendeni’s water purification system is mobile and solar-powered but requires macadamia nut shells, which are sourced locally.
Its off-grid power system was enough to convince the judges of its usefulness as a water purifier. Because it works off the grid, it isn’t affected by power outages. It was this that got him the top prize out of 70 other applications.
Murendeni was also invited to the 10th annual Austrian Leadership Programme in Vienna, Austria.
