IT WAS back in 1999 when 11 friends got together to have a little chat about life and what the future held.
They spoke and decided that putting money aside was the best way to generate income.
And 19 years later, the friends’ club has expanded to 27 members who each contributes R100 every month.
Members of Agisanang Social Club come from Temba near Hammanskraal, northern Gauteng, and they have decided to buy shares.
Jerry Motshabi, the club’s public relations officer, said: “We’re like a happy family that knows how to solve its money problems.
“The difference between this group and other stokvels and clubs, is that we don’t only rely on the bank to help us achieve our goals.
We also invest our money.
“Agisanang’s portfolio already has shares from investments in two other schemes.”
The club meets once a month. During meetings, the host provides food for the day, but he has a budget of R800 which comes out of the group’s monthly contributions.
Jerry told the People’s Paper: “We also have a contract with a local funeral parlour in case one of our members dies.
“The funeral parlour provides a funeral service that includes a coffin as well as transport for the grieving family.”
