THE 2018 BRICS summit taking place in Sandton, Joburg is a platform for the member countries to bring new business to Mzansi.

This international conference is attended by the heads of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Liu Miao, the chairman of one of China's oldest distilleries, Luzhou Laojiao Co, aims to introduce Chinese culture to South Africa.

At a press conference yesterday, Liu said they were excited by the opportunity to introduce their famous drink, Luzhou Laojiao to Mzansi. It comes in three types – Zisha, Bainian and San Ren Xuan – but all have 52% alcohol.

“This liquor is our most important product. It was first officially distilled in 1573 but it is many years older than that.”

He said it took many centuries to perfect the recipe of this alcoholic drink.

“We want South Africans to experience this drink and give us a feedback of what we need to do in order to perfect it for their palette.”

Liu said that Luzhou Laojiao is already available in Mzansi as well as 11 other African countries.

“There are many variants of this drink so we plan to create its own local market presence and other products, some premium but many affordable.” Luzhou Laojiao is sold at local Chinese malls.
