HOT dogs are the most consumed sausage sandwiches in the world which is why we celebrate World Hot Dog Day.
Although this globally diverse food originated in Frankfurt, Germany, it’s become prized all over the world.
Right now there are thousands of flavours, recipes and even different types of hot dogs.
Hot dogs originally came in a natural casing of sheep small intestines. Animal intestines were regularly used to make sausages.
Skinless hot dogs are held together by cellulose casing when cooked and removed for packing.
A few months ago, the American National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimated that baseball fans consume more than 19 million hot dogs and 4,6 million other sausages during this year’s top baseball season. All these hot dogs and sausages would stretch across the North American continent from the east to west coast.
Just the hot dogs could be piled as high as one of the World Trade Center towers.
“The American love affair with baseball and hot dogs spans decades – the sport of baseball and food of hot dogs remains inseparable,” said US hot dog council president Eric Mittenthal.
“Year after year, hot dogs continue to be a hit, both in and out of the park.
“Even as teams offer more creative food choices and inventive options, there’s simply no replacing the unshakable bond between baseball and hot dogs.”
