THE trend and tradition of shisa nyama is one of the oldest in Mzansi. Every kasi prides itself with their own recipes and vibe.
This year, Windhoek Beer is searching for SA’s Best Shisa nyama.
The competition is spearheaded by celebrity chef and TV presenter Benny Masekwameng.
According to chef Benny the mark of a great shisa nyama experience is usually found in its signature taste or flavour and the quality of the ingredients used.
“It could be the specifically created spice mix or the special basting sauce or even the type of wood used to create the fire that gives the meat a distinct flavour.”
He is always looking for places that combine fresh, good quality meats and ingredients.
“They should offer a variety of meats, sides and entertainment to suit all tastes, and the beer should always be cold!” he said.
During November chef Benny and local DJs from Metro FM, Umhlobo Wenene and Ukhozi will embark on a taste tour.
The selected nominated shisa nyamas will be visited to shortlist the eight finalists.
The winner, voted for by consumers and moderated by judges, including chef Benny, will walk away with bragging rights and prizes worth half a million rand.
The main event will take place on 10 December in Soweto.
