BUSINESSMEN Tumelo Moteme (28) and his uncle Collen Magaga (36) proudly own Aluta, a craft vodka brand.
Speaking to SunFood, Tumelo, who is based in Bophelong, the Vaal, said that they have always been fascinated to know how different alcoholic beverages were made. This interest was one of the reasons that pushed them to create their own vodka.
“We put in a lot of long hours and money to make sure we perfected our product. It took discipline and commitment to get where we are.”
They found inspiration in thothoto, a traditional alcohol from their home province of Limpopo.
“Aluta vodka is made by fractional distillation to make sure that they produce the best quality alcohol,” he said.
Their journey to make alcohol started last year and so far they have been receiving a lot of positive results and support from their customers.
Tumelo said they usually sell their craft vodka to people at music and food festivals.
“We have earned a few loyal fans who support us,” Tumelo said.
He explained that right now they have been getting requests from potential customers since their product trended on Twitter recently.
“It’s not easy to convince bar owners to order our product but we are hoping awareness of our brand will change that. We have been getting requests from people overseas so we are looking for a reliable courier service that can get our product to our customers.”
