MZANSI people always come out in their numbers when they are asked to volunteer.
Heineken and Global Citizen partnered for the Clean-up and Recycle programme around the Bara Taxi rank area in Soweto.
It saw people get dirty in a massive effort to clean the rank and surrounding areas.
The beer company said it was planning to host many of these cleaning campaigns in future.
Themba Ratsibe, marketing manager at Heineken, said while they ask people to help clean, they also hold educational workshops where they teach people about drinking and driving, dealing with other alcohol-related problems and business seminars for people who sell alcohol.
Themba said: “Keeping our environment clean is everyone’s responsibility.”
He said in 2019 they will organise more workshops for people who want to learn and be educated about many new ideas.
The Clean-up and Recycle initiative also provided the tickets for 10 winners to attend the Global Citizen concert, which happened at Soccer City in Soweto recently.
