YOUNG Community Shapers are reaching across the whole planet!

Entries are open for this year’s Young Community Shapers Project.

So if you are between 16 and 26 years and run a valid, well-established community project that benefits and empowers your community, fill in an entry form and send it to us – along with your 300-word essay, detailing your project.

Lesego Serelong is a 2007 shaper finalist. She’s the co-founder and chairwoman of Raise the Children International – previously known as Light of the Future.

Her organisation helps raise the bar in terms of education and holistic guidance for orphans and vulnerable children.

Raise’s vision is to develop rural communities in the North West economically through education.

Its aim is to invest in neglected but often driven youth. Members teach young people skills they can use to transform their own communities through NGOs, businesses and projects.

Since 2008, Raise has empowered almost 200 orphaned children with private partners.

Lesego’s innovations have positively impacted various South African communities and has been recognised in both local and international media platforms – her story was featured as part of a feature on Africa’s top women for the Fox network.

Her work has also been featured in academic research journals.

The Young Community Shapers competition inspires youths to reach for their dreams, and urges them to be the change that they want to see in the world.

If you are running a community project, look out for the 2018 community shapers entry form in Daily Sun or visit www.youngcommunityshaper.com
