ERIC Tinkler could be set for a move back to Cape Town City.
City are understood to be mulling over Tinkler’s possible return after the Citizens placed their head coach Jan Olde Riekerink on administrative leave.
According to the club, assistant coach Diogo Peral has been put in the hotseat until further notice.
“The club can confirm that it has placed coach Jan Olde Riekerink on administrative leave, with immediate effect. Club assistant coach Diogo Peral will take charge of the team until further notice,” the club said in a statement.
Riekerink’s fate was practically sealed with the 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy on Saturday, which came hot on the heels of the crushing 5-1 loss against AmaZulu on Wednesday.
A bright start to the season has since turned into a nightmare for the Citizens, an inconsistent run of results leaving them in seventh spot.
They are still a safe bet for a top-eight spot, having collected 38 points from 26 games.
Tinkler was appointed City’s first head coach five years ago and guided them to the Telkom Knockout success before he was poached by SuperSport United a season later.
