IT’S down to the wire for the Africa Cup of Nations Group G matches!
All the four teams in the group can book themselves tickets to the continental showpiece scheduled to be held in Egypt in June/July.
Table-toppers Zimbabwe need a point to guarantee their ticket to the North African competition.
The Brave Warriors led the group with eight points followed by Liberia on seven points, with Democratic Republic of Congo occupying third place with six points while Congo Brazzaville are bottom of the group with five points.
The Warriors welcome Congo at the National Sports Stadium in Harare today (3pm).
DR Congo will do battle with Liberia at Stade des Martyrs, Kinshasa in a simultaneous kick-off. Half of the Zimbabwean squad is based in the Premier Soccer League in Mzansi.
Orlando Pirates defender Munetsi Marshall, Teenage Hadebe of Kaizer Chiefs, Evans Rusike of SuperSport United, Knox Mutizwa of Golden Arrows, George Chigova of Polokwane City, are some of the PSL stars in the Warriors team.
The Warriors will be hoping to become part of the new look Afcon tournament that will feature 24 teams.
It will be a case of you snooze you lose in the final group game matches as the full identity of the 24 qualified teams will be revealed.
The Warriors were part of the 16 teams that participated at the Nations Cup finals in Gabon two years ago. They were the sole representatives from the Southern Region at the West African showpiece.
But things didn’t work out well for them as they finished at the bottom of their group.
They played against Senegal, Tunisia and Algeria in a campaign that they would rather forget as they picked up just one point.
They will be favourite to collect three points against the Congolese-based outfit that will enable them to finish on top of their group.
Zimbabwe could be joined by their neighbours Lesotho. Likuena have to beat Cape Verde at Etadio Nacional de Capo Verde today at 3pm.
But a draw will also see them seal their passage if group leaders Uganda can beat Tanzania in the other group match.
