On June 11 2010 Siphiwe Tshabalala became a household name when he struck the opening goal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa for Bafana Bafana against Mexico.
Tshabalala’s goal united the African continent as it was the first to be scored in the only World Cup hosted on African soil.
Brazil legend Pele described the goal as “one of the most beautiful goals and moments in World Cup history.”
