SEKHUKHUNE United continued with their impressive start in the DStv Premiership when they recorded first home win downing Cape Town City FC 1-0 at Ellis Park on Saturday afternoon.
Chibuike Ohizu scored the only goal of the match with a tap in from Tlotlo Leepile's effortjust five minutes after the hal-time break.
City were the most attacking side in the early stages and Thabo Nodada should have given them the lead in the 18th minute with a big chance inside the six-yard box but his bouncing shot produced a reflex save from goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata.
Sekhukhune absorbed the pressure and managed to go to the break without conceding.
City were punished five minutes from the break by as Ohizu who has been a revelation for the Stellenbosch based side.
Tinkler made a double tactical change just after the hour-mark, as Tashreeq Morris replaced Mdantsane and Craig Martin came on for Fagrie Lakay and in the same moment, Sekhukhune made an enforced change, as Katsande got injured and he was replaced by Tumelo Matona.
The changes gave City a new energy and dimension, as Morris came close to getting the equaliser in the last 20 minutes with a glancing header that missed just wide after a cross by Martin.
The Citizens were desperate to level matters, as five minutes later they made a double substitution, as Mpho Makola replaced Ajagun for fresh legs in midfield while Shane Roberts came on for Bradley Ralani in an attacking move.
The hosts were defending deep in the dying minutes but had space on counter-attacks and Nyiko Mobbie missed a glorious chance for Babina Noko in stoppage time with a free header and Nsabata denied Khanyisa Mayo the equaliser for City with a close-range save from a header, as Sekhukhune held on to move up to fifth on the log.
