FORMER Mamelodi Sundowns striker Fiston Abdul-Razak is hoping to take his war-torn country Burundi to their first ever Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.
Following his trauma at Sundowns where he claims he was not given enough time to prove his worth, the current JS Kabyle striker in Algeria believes he is a revived man.
He currently leads the Afcon qualifier scoring charts with six goals.
He is tied with Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo.
The Swallows, who are second in Group C with nine points from five matches, will host Gabon tomorrow in Bujumbura, only needing just a draw to qualify.
Mali, who will face South Sudan at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, also on Saturday, are top of the group with 11 points from the same number of games.
Burundi have only featured in the Championship of African Nations (Chan) tournament that was hosted in South Africa in 2014.
Added Razak: “I hope we’ll qualify for the first time. We have never lost since the qualifiers started.
“The strong team in our group is Mali. They have been hammering everyone but against us, they haven’t done that.
“Going into tomorrow’s game, we don’t have to put ourselves under any pressure.
“What we need to do is just relax, take it like any normal game since we are at home. We just need one point.
“I just pray to God that I score and Ighalo can be sick so that he doesn’t score against Seychelles.
“I don’t wish anything bad to him, but just a small sickness.
“It can be flu, as long as he misses the game and I end up top scorer.
“Forget about Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt). I’m their driver, they are busy chasing me.”
Razak, who was signed by Sundowns from Kenyan side Sofapaka FC before the 2015-16 season, spent one season with Pitso Mosimane where he scored against Bloemfontein Celtic during the MTN8 quarter-final at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on 5 August 2015.
