MAMELODI Sundowns came from behind to maintain their unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership when they played to a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday night.
The draw means Sundowns are the only team that is yet to taste a defeat this season.
In 13 matches that they have played this season, Sundowns amassed a tally of 31 points, with a nine points chasm between them and second played Royal AM, who have 22 points.
Plucky Stellenbosch were the first to find the back of the net in the first half from a penalty spot.
Khuluso Madau fouled Ashley Du Preez in the 18 area, and referee of the day, Philangenkosi Khumalo, did not hesitate to give a penalty.
Junior Mendieta stepped up and sent Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene in the wrong direction to take the lead.
Stellies showed great character and managed to take the game to half-time on the lead.
However, sedulous Sundowns came back more robust in the second half of the game and were rewarded in the first 12 minutes of the stanza when Lyle Lakay brought a low pass outside the area under control to find the bottom-corner through a left-footed strike.
The match was more like a pendulum better half of the second stanza swinging in both halves, but none of them could get a winner.
The point took Stellies to the fourth spot on the log with 22 points, same as Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs, who are second and third, respectively, with the same number of points each team.
On Wednesday, Sundowns will host Royal AM in the top of the table clash at Loftus Stadium (3:30pm). While Stellies host SuperSport United on the same day at Danie Craven Stadium (5:30pm).
