MAMELODI Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane was left unhappy by Cape Town City’s captain Thamsanqa Mkhize's dangerous tackle that resulted in Downs' Keletso Makgalwa stretchered off with a serious injury.
On Tuesday night, Downs were held to a 1-1 draw against the Citizens at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Early in the second half Mkhize, brought down Sundowns attacker Makgalwa with a late, rough tackle which earned him a yellow card in the process.
Mosimane felt that the challenge which saw Makgalwa been taken out was too much.
“He (Makgalwa) was going to score and Mkhize did a good foul to stop him from kicking. But when you go to his Achilles tendon, for me if you do that, it should not be a yellow card,” an angry Mosimane retorted.
The Downs coach even went far as suggesting that Mkhize should remain out of contention until his player Makgalwa returns from injury.
Added Mosimane: “I just believe somewhere, somehow the laws of the game should change. Even if you give him a yellow now, he must wait for Keletso to come back. If Keletso is out for three weeks, he (Mkhize) must also come back in three weeks."
After booking their spot in the semi-finals of the MTN8 in the past weekend and the league game on Tuesday, The Brazilians are now shifting their focus to Africa.
On Saturday they host Congolese side AS Otôho d'Oyo in the second leg of their Caf Champions League encounter.
The match is scheduled to take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville at 7pm. Downs will be out to turn things around after suffering a 2-1 defeat away in Congo.
