IT’S do-or-die in the Multichoice Diski Challenge today.
The Makhulong Stadium, in the heart of Tembisa, is the place to be with an action packed final day of the season expected.
At this stage last season, a rampant Golden Arrows had already wrapped up the title with a game to spare.
But this season has proved to be a much tighter affair.
Four teams are in the running for the MDC crown heading into the final round of fixtures, with two of those set to play each other in what will be a potential eliminator.
Bloemfontein Celtic, Polokwane City, Cape Town City and SuperSport United are all vying for their maiden title.
Fourth placed SuperSport will kick-off the day’s proceedings with a game against Free State Stars at 9am.
That game will be followed by a clash between title rivals The Citizens and Rise and Shine, with the winner set to keep their title aspirations alive ahead of the last game of the day.
Rise and Shine occupy second spot on the standings with 28 points from 14 games, a solitary point behind pacesetters Celtic.
Their opponents, The Citizens, are third with 26 points, trailing Siwelele by three points.
They will be disappointed if they have nothing to show for their efforts this season.
They were one of the most consistent teams during this campaign.
They’ve been leading the pack for the better of the season, only to falter in the dying stages.
The Capetonians now need to win their final match and hope the leaders lose their game in order to stand any chance of lifting the title.
However, having come second in each of the past two seasons, Abram “Wire” Nteo’s Siwelele will be eager not to let the title slip through their fingertips this time around. They were runners up in the 2016-17 seasons.
The Bloemfontein-based team will be hoping to go one better and make it third time lucky when they take on Arthur Zwane’s Kaizer Chiefs in the final game of the day at 1pm.
A customary overseas tour awaits the winners of the fifth edition of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Reserve League.
