South Africa's Luvo Manyonga defended his long jump title at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Zagreb, Croatia on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old, who won silver at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, recorded a distance of 8.03m to take home the gold medal.

Manyonga was the only participant to jump further than 8m, while his team-mate Ruswahl Samaai finished a disappointing 5th with 7.65m his best.

There was more good news in the form of 29-year-old Antonio Alkana, who won silver in 110m hurdles in 13.49 seconds.

There is less pleasing news for South African javelin star Sunette Viljoen, though.

Netwerk24 reports that the 35-year-old, who was also a silver medallist in Rio, had to pull out of the javelin final on Tuesday with injury after just one throw.

That distance of 45.75m was enough to earn her 7th place, but Viljoen is now in a race against time to be physically ready for the IAAF World Championships in Doha later this year.  -Sport24
