SIPHELELE “Stash” Ntshangase is determined to prove himself after Kaizer Chiefs gave him a new contract, says player’s agent Jazzman Mahlakgane.

Mahlakgane said as much as he believes in the player, it is up to him to convince the masses that Amakhosi made a decision they will not regret.

Chiefs confirmed recently they had extended Ntshangase’s contract by another year, despite the fact he did not play a single game for the Absa Premiership leaders before the season was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“He knows it and he’s very clear about it, and he’s very much aware that he has to perform,” said Mahlakgane.

Ntshangase was signed from Baroka FC in the second half of the 2017-18 season for R3 million before he joined Chiefs with Leonardo Castro, who was signed from Mamelodi Sundowns when Steve Komphela was in charge.

On the back of great displays at Bakgaga and also at Black Leopards, Ntshangase was given the coveted number 10 jersey.

However, he has yet to deliver for Amakhosi.

Castro has fared better than Ntshangase.

The Colombian striker has been a key factor in delivering the goods up front, alongside partner Samir Nurkovic to propel the Soweto giants to the top of the league.

“Stash is not an overnight flop. He knows his worth, I know his worth. It was very simple decision to make in terms of extending his contract,” added Mahlakgane.

“As soon as that call came from Bobby Motaung (Chiefs football manager) that the club has decided to extend his contract, we said we are in. We know these kinds of things do happen to players.”

Chiefs’ decision to offer the Pongola-born midfielder a new contract might have been motivated by the fact they were banned for signing players for two transfer windows by Fifa for the“unlawful” signing of Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana from Fosa Juniors in Madagascar in 2018.

Chiefs want the case dismissed and have taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The case is set to be heard on 9 September.
