SUPERSPORT UNITED captain Dean Furman is set to depart the Tshwane giants at the end of the season.
Furman, whose contract with the club ends after this campaign, says he will still have to speak to management.
But they know where he stands.
According SunSport sources, coach Kaitano Tembo is aware of the looming situation and is making plans to secure someone in the January transfer window or before end of season.
Said Furman: “My contract is up at the end of the season and the thinking is to go back overseas.
“I haven’t had talk with SuperSport. But I think they know my position and mostly at the end of the season I’ll be going back overseas.
“I’m sure I’ll have a chat with the CEO (Stan Matthews) and the chairperson (Khulu Sibiya), but yes I’m going back to the United Kingdom.”
The 31-year-old, who is regarded as the club’s legend, joined SuperSport from Doncaster Rovers in the second half of the 2014/15 season when the club was under Gordon Igesund.
His move to Mzansi came after Matthews visited him twice in England to lure him to play in the country of his birth.
Furman said he habours no regrets and has enjoyed everything in this country.
In Furman’s five-and-a-half seasons with the club, the CapeTown-born midfielder has won two Nedbank Cups and two MTN8, including the one earlier this season.
He was unfortunate to be runners-up in the Caf Confederations Cup in 2017.
While it is clear he’s returning to the UK, the Chelsea graduate said it’s early to say which team he’ll be joining.
“There’s no one in particular I’m speaking to at the moment,” said Furman, who has played for Oldham Athletic, Bradford City and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers in the UK.
“My focus is here at SuperSport until theend of the season. We’re in good position in the league.”, we just took an MTN8, we sitting nice in the league.
“So whatever happened for me next season my focus is purely at SuperSport until the end of the season.”
