IN A bid to tighten their squad as they challenge for promotional play-offs, Richards Bay FC have signed experienced midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni.
The former Chippa United star, who had an unsuccessful one-season stay at Orlando Pirates, was surprisingly released by the Chilli Boys during the January transfer window.
Now the 29-year-old talented defensive midfielder has joined the Natal Rich Boys in the National First Division (NFD), with the hope of reviving his career and also to help the club finish in the top three.
Sangweni will be with the club until end of the season, confirmed theNatal Rich Boys’ boss Jomo Biyela.
He said: “We thought it would benefit us to have a player of his calibre. His experience will help us reach our goal, which is to finish in a respectable position on the log.
“Sangweni is not a player who deserves to play in the NFD, so we cannot tie him down with a long term contract.
“He could be leaving us going back to PSL at the end of the season.”
Sangweni could make his NFD debut this afternoon when his side take on Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium (3.30pm).
They are heading to this encounter sitting sixth on the log, and they still stand a chance of qualifying for the play-offs in the remaining seven games.
Biyela stated: “Play-offs are still within our reach. We will fight until end of the season to finish in a respectable position.”
- Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC are still at the top of the NFD with 45 points from 22 outings.
