CHIEFS TO RULE ON MALULEKA

KAIZER Chiefs midfielder, George Maluleka, is UNLIKELY to be with the Naturena outfit when the Absa Premiership season resumes.

According to the Soweto giants’ football manager, Bobby Motaung, Chiefs will decide before end of the week on the future of the outgoing midfielder Maluleka.

However, Motaung didn’t want to comment whether they will keep Maluleka until this suspended season is completed, or until end of the month when his contract is due to expire.

But SunSport sources say it looks like Chiefs will confirm his departure after Maluleka angered Amakhosi management in March when he signed a pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs felt at that time that they weren’t given time to negotiate a new contract with Maluleka, when it was confirmed he has signed with the nine-time league champions.

“This week, it might be on Thursday. We’ll make an announcement to address the issue,” said Motaung.

“I don’t want to go into details but the club will issue a statement, like we normally do when it comes to player movements.”

Maluleka’s agent, Sean Roberts, when asked if the former youth international will complete the season with Chiefs or not, said he cannot comment. Fifa issued guidelines that players who have contracts that expire this month and those who have signed pre-contracts with other clubs can remain with their respective clubs until their respective seasons are finished. But this issue rests with clubs and players.

If the 31-year-old is released, it means Maluleka, who joined Chiefs from SuperSport United in the second half of 2013-14 season, could miss winning the Premiership championship if the log leaders go on and claim the title.

Amakhosi have six matches remaining and head the standings with 48 points – four ahead of second placed Downs, who have a game in hand.

The PSL suspended their season in March due to the coronavirus outbreak.
